Registering your Blog on Google Blogger

Registering your Blog on Google Blogger

We are going to see how to register a blog on Google Blogger in simple step-by-step process.

I prefer to work with Blogger because Google offers excellent services when it comes to supplementary activities required to promote, track and monetize the blog. It's simplistic and elegant interface makes blogging job painless than any other blogging services available on the internet.

In my opinion, Bloggers wins brownie points for a couple of below reasons:

  • Blogger service is provided by Google and we all know that how well-reputed it is in the field of internet. Blogger is most secure and trusted platform for bloggers.
  • It not only provides free hosting but also free domain which can be upgraded to paid service of our choice if we wish to. Unlike most of other blogger services which comes with a little price. I would insist to go for free service if you are absolutely new into blogging. Get known with blogging insights and then you may go for paid service.
  • Centralized access control with single Google account for various services makes your life even easier. Google Analytics to observe traffic flow of your blog and user behaviour, Google Webmasters to track your performance in search engine results, Google Photos to store images and Google Drive to store other file formats, Google Adsense to advertise on your blog,  all this can be managed with the help of single Google account.
  • Recently in 2017, Blogger added the whole set of new templates with trendy designs and few cool widgets (web parts). It lets you customize web-pages to great extent through its user interface. One can fully customize the template if you are good with XML, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • There is no need to worry about it if you find programming a complex task. You will find plenty of attractive web templates and widgets available online absolutely for free to serve your purpose.
Now let's see the procedure for registering your blog on Google Blogger.

First and foremost thing, you will have to register for Google Blogger service with the help of Google account, which is a normal registration process.
Once you have set-up username and password for the account, you will be redirected to Blogger Welcome page.

You will see an option to Create New Blog. Click on this button. Enter your blog details, like Blog Title and URL by which readers will find your blog. Choose a template from the gallery and hit "Create blog!" button. See below picture for reference. Note, any of these details and template design can be changed in the lateral phase of the blog design process at any point in time.
Create a New Blog

After above step, you will be redirected to Blogger Dashboard page from where you can manage your entire blog. The dashboard is a centralized place and acts as a control panel for your blog. It looks something like below picture:

Blogger Dashboard

  1. Theme: You can set overall look of your blog from this menu option. You will see a couple of blogger themes/designs available on the page. Select any design from the gallery and apply it. You will see your blog in complete new design. That easy it is!

You will need to replace the XML code into text editor box with XML code of the template you have chosen from the external source. Also, you can set layout for the mobile users. Choose a theme which is elegant in look, responsive on various screen, easy to understand and have additional features you might consider.

Users can prefer to display 5 or any number of posts per page as per their choice. Whether to allow readers to comment on your blog post or not, who can comment, do these comments need moderation before publishing live and if your blog content can be shared on social networking sites, all these details can be set within this option. Email: If you wish to post content through custom blogger email-id then you will have to create an email id by going into this option. It also lets you set regional time and date settings. So when you plan to publish any content it will go live as per set time and will display the date in the format set here. This Meta description text can be set here. For page not found errors and redirection request, message or redirect URL can be set here. Whether crawlers of search engines can crawl and index your web page can be set here. Other: This option lets you import content from another blogging platform to Google Blogger. Also, you can take backup of your current posts and upload that content to another blogging platform. If you wish to delete blog for say some reason, you can do it from this option. 6. Comments: Comments tab lists all comments received from your readers. You can moderate them from within this tab and decide whether to publish or completely discard them.
There are few more tabs like Pages which let you create a stand-alone post, which can be used on special purpose to redirect users to the specific page.

Stats
tab lets you monitor the performance of your blog. It will show you how many users have visited a particular web page, which page is visited, the source of the visitor, etc.

You can choose to monetize your content by displaying advertisements in a web page from the tab Earnings. We are gonna cover that part in detail in another post. Why Blog? Benefits of the Blogging

Benefits of the Blogging

Anyone who is thinking about starting a new blog would definitely ask a question to himself "Why Blog?" and what are the benefits of the blogging? There are alternatives to blogging.

Well, writing a new post is always been an enthusiastic endeavour to me. It opens new ways of possibilities. There are several benefits of blogging to your business and to you even if it just personal blogging experience.

I have been blogging since 2006 and it's been a good learning affair so far. Back then everything used to be different. There have been lots of changes in design patterns, promotion strategies and in SEO techniques (..😵). What has not changed is the way people connect with each other through their blogs.

I own three blogs and SMS Gallery has been more successful than other two blogs in terms of earnings as well as popularity it gave. Currently, it ranks in the first three results (sometimes at first place) in Google search results.

I have personally experienced below mentioned benefits of the blogging with SMS Gallery. Thanks to all those fellow bloggers and the lovely audience who helped me reach there.

Here at Blogging Hacks, we will be discussing ideas and tricks on how we can improvise our blog's appearance and rank in search engines. It would be a great pleasure to help you with blogging related queries if you have any.

Without further ado, let's quickly have a look at why we should blog and what are the benefits of the blogging:

1. Share your ideas with a large audience.

Share your ideas with the large audienceBlogging is a platform where you can express your innovative ideas to the audience all across the globe. A skilled photographer can reach his/her end-audience through a blog and gain all fame he deserves.

One of the greater benefits of the blogging is that it provides you a platform where you can reach millions of users and promote your explorations. This vast ocean of users will give you many experiences and your product would be more refined and improved in the process.

2. Build your network.

Build your networkExpress yourself as an expert in your area of work. To do so, you will have to constantly study and build the knowledge base. Through your blog posts, you will be communicating with the vast audience.

If you are on the right path, many people would like to subscribe to your blog for the righteous information with the facts you are providing. This way you will be creating a community of individuals who keep same interest and have great influence on the content you are sharing.

3. Earn money.

Earn MoneyWho doesn't love free money! We all do, right? The principal benefit of the blogging which comes in mind of any blogger is that will I be able to make money out of it. The content you post on the blog can earn money for you. But it's not that easy. You will have to provide quality content or services to visitors. The better your services, the more visitors you will likely have and earning in return.

There are various options available to earn money. If you have good writing skills, work as a content writer, or post ads on your blog and earn money by means of advertising, a blog owned by you can be sold for money, design premium templates and sell them for money, so on and so forth. We will have a deeper look at how we can make money through blogging in coming posts.

4. Help others by sharing knowledge.

Help others by sharing knowledge
If you are good at problem-solving skills, help others by sharing your knowledge. It may help someone make his/her day better. Listen to the queries your visitors might have and provide them a solution.

It is said that knowledge grows upon sharing. It helps you grow. Through a knowledge sharing process, you involve yourself in a conversation and as I said earlier you open a new way to possibilities. You never know you may learn something in the process.

5. Blogging vs Social Media

Content is kingBlogging and social media, both will let you share content with the audience. However, they have different purposes and benefits of their own.

The substantial benefit of the blogging is that the content you post on the blog will stay there forever and is easy to access. Visitors can access it with the help of URL, link it or share it.

Social media can be thought of as a medium to share this content. It might let you reach the largest audience, but it is not easy to find the desired content through the vast list of posts coming on social networking platforms. Besides networking, blogging let you build a stronger community and other benefits we discussed earlier. I have written an article on How to Get Traffic to Your New Blog by using social media.

6. Create your brand

Create your brand
Turn your blog into a brand by providing creative services and quality content. Connect with your audience on a frequent basis, arrange events for visitors to participate in, get known in a community for the divergent services you provide.

These all are ways of building an effective brand name. It will help you get recognized as a brand and stand-out from the rest.

5 Things you Should Know Before you Start a Blog

5 Things you Should Know Before you Start a Blog

Welcome to the article on 5 things you should know before you start a blog!

I assume that you have decided to post your ingenious ideas on the blog. It's never too late to start a blog. Go along with the below simple and easy to understand, step-by-step instructions and set-up your own blog without worrying about too many technical jargons.

There are a small number of things you should know before you start a blog. These actions are interconnected with each other and hence don't get confused on where to start from. Instead, note down all those things and follow a simple step-by-step approach to complete them.

Below steps will help you understand the primary work need to be done before you dive into the actual process of starting a blog. So, let's see where to start from.

1. Choosing a blogging platform.

There are numerous blogging platforms available on the internet. WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr, LiveJournal, Wix, TypePad, Ghost are a few popular ones to name. Each one offers unique and satisfactory services.

Also, if you wish to host and manage your blog by own then there is another Wordpress service, i.e. Wordpress.org for which you will have to buy a domain name for a website and hosting space. I'll advise try the free services listed above first and then go for the advance version.

I chose Google's Blogger service as it is convenient with Google's other services like Analytics, Webmaster, AdSense, etc., it is free, and it is very easy to use. These services might be useful to you in later phases of your blogging experience. Do a little research on the services offered by blogging platforms and see if they meet your requirements. If you decide to start a blog on blogger, feel free to visit the article on Registering your blog on Google Blogger.

2. Selecting your niche (subject).

Once you have decided on which blogging platform to start with next the devious job is to select the topic for your blog. Think what your personality or experience relates to and choose the topic accordingly.

Don't get confused with too many ideas and stay stuck with your prominent choice. Make sure your blog topic is interesting and knowledgeable. Select suitable title (in my case I chose Blogging Hacks) and domain (https://www.blogging-hacks.com) for the blog along with the topic.

One more important thing while choosing a domain name that it comes in a variety of options. So do a little research on which domain name is suitable.for your blog.

3. Understanding dashboard interface.

A dashboard is a centralized place from where you can manage and control your blog. You can set the theme for the blog, set sidebar elements, fonts, colors, etc., manage comments and so many other things from the same interface. We will have a closer look on dashboard interface post setting the domain name of the blog.

Understand all the functionality offered by the blogging service provider. Go through each menu link and see what all changes happen upon changing the settings. It is good to experiment functionalities before you start publishing a large number of posts. I would suggest watching 20-30 mins beginners guide video on YouTube to understand the complete interface of the Dashboard.

I have explained the Blogger dashboard in great detail in the article How to Write the First Blog Post. All blogging platforms listed in point #1 offers almost the same dashboard interface. Hence reading this article would be worthy of your time.

4. Choosing the right template for your blog.

Half of the difficult job is done once you are acquainted with dashboard interface. Now you need to choose a right, decent-looking template for your blog. This template should complement the subject you have chosen for the blog. It should also offer the latest technologies/trends concerning website development and designing.

You may choose to have features like the responsiveness of the web page on different size screens, easy customization, color options, if theme offers sidebar, etc.

5. Your web page must have these elements.

When you set-up your template you should consider keeping these widgets/gadgets. A plugin/gadget/widget to show the list of all posts from where your readers can access them, an archive of all posts if there are too many posts, subscribe link, followers link, advertisements, social media plugins, RSS subscription link, etc.

This list of the elements may vary depending upon your needs. Hence make a note of all widgets you wish to add on your blog.

Concluding on the point that we have all the details we needed to start a blog. In this guide we learned about:

Do let me know through your comments if at all, you have any questions.

Wish you all the best and welcome to the blogging community!
